Wholistic
Herbalism

Ally yourself with nature

Herbal medicine is the first medicine that human-kind has ever known. Centuries before science-based medicine came into being, people incorporated the wisdom teachings of the Earth and her offerings in their lives, helping them, strengthening them, creating a better sense of being well.

Herbal medicine is a gentle and effective modality for maintaining wellness. Herbs can also play a part in supporting and nurturing the body during times of illness.

 What is a wholistic herbalist?

Wholistic herbalists work with their clients to identify and address the way dis-ease is presented, and then search for the root cause of that dis-ease.

We recognize that an individual is made up of many parts that form a whole. We work with the whole being.

As a Wholistic herbalist, my work with you will include a picture of not only your physical bodies, but lifestyle as well. Illness is often a symptom of the way we live our lives, not just what we put into our bodies.

Clients will use herbs and herbal remedies that are specific to a wholistic approach for health and wellness.

Who can benefit from herbalism

Anyone and everyone. If…

  • you are seeking to support your body in a wholistic way of living;

  • you are actively seeking help in addressing dis-ease in your body

  • you are looking for wholistic ways to support your body so that it better uses medical aids and procedures.  An example of this would be nourishing the nervous system with herbs so that pharmaceutical sleep aids work more effectively.

  • you are looking to nurture your body and health gently and consistently over time;

    Caution: If you have a serious illness or medical condition, please visit your medical physician or naturopath before seeking my help.

Herbal Products

I purchase dried herbals through a reputable organic supplier. I can supply herbal products to clients if they cannot source themselves. My costs are not marked up for profit, and will be the cost (adjusted by weight) I paid for the product, plus any taxes or additional fees.

If clients wish me to create tinctures for their specific use, please be aware that it takes a minimum of six weeks for a tincture remedy to be prepared. The charge for tinctures will reflect the cost of ingredients, plus any taxes or additional fees.

How do we get started?

All clients are required to complete a detailed questionnaire and sign a Memorandum of Understanding prior to a consultation appointment.

Initial Consultations cost $95.00

Consultations usually take 45 minutes to an hour.  From there, you and I will have a better understanding of expectations.  Consultations are normally conducted via zoom. If we are reasonably close in geography, I am happy to have an in-person consultation once the questionnaire has been completed.

“In our little sphere of modernity, the use of medicinal herbs may seem edgy and new, but the truth is that human beings have turned to the world of green for health and nurture from the beginning.  The oldest known treatments for the ailments that still plague us today – from headaches to sore feet, from muscle cramps to melancholy – come from the world of plants.”

 Common Questions

What is the difference between wholistic herbalism and other types of herbalism?

Individuals are made up of many types of bodies, subtle and material. We are created to have all bodies work together in harmony to have, and support overall health. Wholistic herbalists work with clients and explore lifestyle, history, physical health, emotional health, meditation practices, family make up, etc. Dis-ease can manifest from any source though it may make itself known on the physical level. Wholistic herbalism recognizes a person as a whole, not individual parts.

Does your work include work with supplements?

No. I am not trained to work with, nor have experience in the use of supplements. What should be noted here is that all supplements required by our bodies can be found in herbal medicine.

What types of remedies are included in your work?

Any recommendations that I make is in consultation with clients, helping them understand which would be best for them and their lifestyle and why. Remedies may be in the form of teas, tinctures, poltices, baths, etc.

Do you use standardized formulae in your work with clients?

No. The idea of wholistic herbalism is not only working with a client as a whole, but also working with herbs in their whole form, whether that is using leaves, roots or flowers. When a herb is standardized by industry, it assures a certain percentage of a particular chemical constituent as a marker, and dismisses the many other chemical constituents that work together in the herb when whole to provide their benefit and lessen side effects.

Does wholistic herbalism treat acute medical conditions?

No. I am not a medical professional and therefore do not diagnose nor treat medical conditions. Clients are encouraged, for the good of their health, to ensure their medical practitioners are aware of any herbs and herbal practices that they are using.

What are the next steps after a first consultation?

I would like to be able to say “this is what happens next” but I cannot. Each individual is unique therefore their herbal regimen will differ to address their distinctive needs. That will include the types of herbs to be used going forward, if they are formulated with other herbs, how they are used, their frequency, and their strength.

When a client incorporates a new herb or remedy, I will do a check-in 24 hours later, and then again in a few days. This is so that together we can determine initial responses and to ensure that the client is comfortable in continuing.

When working with clients who have a shorter duration of use with particular herbs, I touch base every week or so. For clients who are using herbal remedies for longstanding conditions, I do like to touch base every month to ensure that the expected outcomes are continuing. There is a nominal charge based on frequency of contact. However, the frequency of communication is ultimately determined by the client.
