Qi Stone massage

what is qi stone massage?
For millennia, humans have used the Art of Thermotherapy to aid in illness, ailments and overall general well being. Today, we still use heat and cold to treat ailments and illnesses. Think of cold packs used for a headache or to reduce swelling and bruising. Heating pads and hot water bottles for sore muscles and menstrual discomfort. Alternating the two to reduce and then increase blood flow. Plunge pools and saunas.
Qi Stone Massage therapy is the application of hot and/or cold stones to the body for the purpose of changing the physiological responses that are going on in the body to promote healing. Combined with massage and intentional energy work, a Qi Stone massage works with the physical and subtle energy bodies to aid in creating balance and assist with healing.
Now what is it really?
When you receive a Qi Stone massage from me, you are in a space that is private and safe. It is warm and moist from the heat of the stones and the water that bathes them. My space has been created with relaxation, compassion and healing in mind.
Laying on the table, you are covered with large bath sheets. You are encouraged to close your eyes, breathe as you will, and let yourself be immersed in the experience.
Stones are placed strategically on your body to activate your chakras and subtle energy bodies. Time is spent preparing the massage oil, the essential oils, the crystals. You will find yourself relaxing and slowing down.
As each part of the body is uncovered, hot stones glide across your muscles leaving in their wake warmth, and circulation. Earth energy helps with release, and rejuvenates.
I am a conduit for healing energy though this is not a ReiKi treatment. You and I will have discussed the information I received in preparation for your massage and it is in/on those areas that I will focus.
At the end of our session, your body will be relaxed and cat-like. I ensure that, just as I engaged your energy bodies with intention, I will close them so that you are not left vulnerable.
Have you gone to sleep? I will give you a few minutes before gently waking you. While you drink water, I stay with you until you are alert and fully awake, held in safe space.
“It goes beyond the physical experience of typical massage, and enters deeper dimensions of sensations in relaxation, health and well-being, creating a positive approach to the “body-mind-spirit” philosophy.”

how does qi stone massage work?
Have you ever had body work done and come away a little unsettled, with maybe some disorientation, not feeling the calm and relaxed way that you had expected to feel? Most of us chalk that up to being so relaxed that we’re a little off balance.
When body work is being done, the intentions are to work with the muscles to release physical tension and therefore create a relaxed physical state, which then affects our mental and emotional states of being. Sometimes the work is designed to treat physical ailments such as muscle and tendon damage. And often, a massage simply feels good.
Qi Stone massage was developed by Jan Benham to affect not only our physical bodies, but to also address the subtle bodies that are the mind-body-spirit tripartite, and which are activated during body work.
On our physical bodies, the gentle massage techniques using hot / cold stones affects systems and organs. Some of these are:
Calming or stimulating the nervous system (sympathetic and parasympathetic systems)
Bringing blood flow to and away from muscles which aids in relaxation and reduced tension
Changing the blood flow to internal organs
Aiding the circulatory system
Aiding the lymphatic system
On our energetic bodies, the Earth energy that is present in the basalt stones rejuvenates our energy centres, which in turn allows healing and change to take place throughout our subtle and other bodies.
If essential oils are used, they play a part in the healing process whether through the application of the oil on the physical body, or by the calming and strengthening of our emotional and mental bodies through the scent and vibrations of the oil(s).
When used, crystal energies, similar to earth energy, touch all of our bodies. Crystal energies will go where they are needed most at the time.
Qi Stone Massage therapy has been designed to provide relaxation to our physical body while paying attention to our subtle bodies.

Everyone can benefit from Qi Stone Massage therapy.
However, because thermotherapy affects the physical body, clients are required to complete a short questionnaire about their physical health prior to the start of the session. All information is held in confidence.
For those who have heart or circulatory issues, high or low blood pressure, hemophilia, thyroid or organ conditions, it is best to ask your medical practitioner if this type of massage is appropriate for you. Hot stone massages affect the distribution of blood.
Because thermotherapy affects blood distribution, I do not offer hot stone body massages to women who are pregnant.
Clients are asked to wear their small clothes while on the table. However, all areas of the body not being worked on are covered at all times. I do not massage the chest, genital or abdominal areas.
Any essential oils or crystals being used in a session will be discussed with the client prior to the start of the massage. I reserve the right not to use essential oils or crystals if I am being guided not to.
